We put the exhibition together in Chichester Cathedral yesterday. I’m quite pleased with my textile piece ‘Between the Crosses’ – it works well in the space and looks a bit like a stained glass window. It was so much work in the end – thought I’d never finish it! Definitely my most challenging work ever!
Between the Crosses is both a celebration of the art and architecture of Chichester Cathedral and a remembrance of those who have given their lives fighting for their country.
It references the myriad of intersection points, both physical and spiritual in the Cathedral, particularly referencing the wonderful stained glass windows, Piper’s richly coloured tapestry screen, the ironwork and the many memorials to the dead.
Between the Crosses also reflects upon John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Field’ and the poppies that blow ‘between the crosses, row on row’.
